Parking
Parking space at Kennedy High School is very limited.
School parking permits applications are only available for juniors and seniors with a valid driver’s license and no outstanding school issued parking tickets. There is no cost for a school parking permit. Parking spaces will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. A PARKING PERMIT DOES NOT GUARANTEE A PARKING SPACE. Campus lots are not open to freshmen or sophomores. Underclassmen may choose to park along the streets (be aware of any restrictions) or opt to purchase a parking permit from one of three churches in the area.
See the Parking Registration page for more information and forms to apply.
Annual Verification-also called Annual Registration
Verification of student information, consent forms, and release agreements need to be updated each year. This is done on the parent portal of Infinite Campus. Click on the menu and choose “More” the click on “Registration”. If you have not completed Annual Verification for your child, please take a moment to get it done for all of your CRCSD students.
There is an Infinite Campus App available for download on your Apple or Android device. Search Google Play or the App Store to find the app.
If you need assistance with your Infinite Campus account, please contact the Main Office at 319-558-2251.
Bus/Transportation 2024-25
By Iowa law the District is obligated to transport students who wish to ride and are eligible. For most high school students, this means living 3 or more miles from the high school in your residence area.
For the 2024-25 school year:
Students NEED to sign up for bussing if:
* The student needs busing for the upcoming year and was NOT bussed in 2023-24
* The student is an incoming freshman that DOES NOT come from a Kennedy feeder school
* The student is in 10th-12th grade, is NEW to Kennedy, and lives more than 3 miles from school.
* The student has a new address that is more than 3 miles from school. Note, the new address must be updated in Infinite Campus before you can request bussing.
Students do NOT need to sign up for busing if:
* The student is an incoming 9th grader from a Kennedy feeder school and lives in a free bussing area. They will automatically be given a bus route in the fall.
* The student is in 10th -12th grade, lives in a free bussing area, and rode the bus in the 2023-24 school year.
Please contact the school if you no longer need bussing and are opting out.
Students who do not qualify for school transportation can ride the City Bus for free by showing their school ID.
Bus route information will be available in Infinite Campus and the StopFinder App. The app is the place to find the most recent information. Please check there the day before school starts to verify pick up location and time.
An “invitation” to the StopFinder App is sent out to those new to the bus the week before school starts. It is sent to the primary parent/guardian’s email and can be shared with the student and other parent/guardian. For more information and the benefits of StopFinder App click on the button at the bottom of this page.
If you have questions, contact Brighid Smith-see contact information below.

Open Lunch/Study Hall Release
LUNCH RELEASE:
FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES
Freshmen and sophomores have Closed Lunch. Closed Lunch means that students may not leave the Kennedy campus during their lunch period. They must remain in the approved areas of the campus during that time. Approved areas include the cafeteria and the courtyard. Other areas, such as parking lots, hallways, or athletic fields, are unauthorized. Students may not be in those areas during the lunch period.
JUNIORS AND SENIORS
Students classified as juniors and seniors have Open Lunch privileges. Open Lunch means that students may leave the campus during their assigned lunch period. If students with Open Lunch choose to remain on campus, however, they must remain in the approved areas. No student, regardless of grade level or lunch designation, may loiter in unauthorized areas of the campus. Parents wishing to restrict lunch privileges are expected to notify the school. School officials reserve the right to restrict Open Lunch privileges if behavior or attendance circumstances warrant such action.
STUDY HALL RELEASE:
All students are able to be released from a scheduled study hall any period of the day. They must have a signed parent permission form on file with the Attendance Office. Permission forms are good for the academic year. If there are any changes, please contact the Attendance Office.
Students are expected to be off campus during the released time and return on time for their next class. Habitual lateness and/or refusal to leave campus during a Release may result in a revocation of release privilege and assignment to a study hall for that period. In addition, students who are not passing classes may have their release revoked.
A more detailed explanation of the lunch policy and study hall policy is printed in the student handboo

School Pictures
School pictures are used for the yearbook and student ID. It is important for students to have their picture taken as IDs are required for entrance to many school activities including dances. Students may also use their ID to ride the city bus for free.
If the student loses his/her ID, the IMC can make a replacement. There may be a nominal charge.
2024-2025
Temporary IDs were handed out in Homeroom. Updated IDs will be given to those who have their picture taken. They will take a couple of weeks to arrive.
September 11 is the new picture day for those who were not able to get their picture taken on the 27th. This is an A Day.
Picture makeups will be October 2.
If you want to order pictures and did not receive an order form please go to shop.hrimaging.com. You will need to set up an account. It will ask for your student number. This is the Person ID number which you can get by calling the Main Office or you can email HR Imaging and they will connect your student with your account.
School Supply List
Students at Kennedy High School are offered a variety of course choices. Each schedule is as individual as the student themselves. Students should bring basic school supplies (notebooks, writing utensils) that best suit their learning and organizational needs.
Teachers will let students know if there are any specific supplies needed for their class.
In addition, students are provided with a ChromeBook that they will keep throughout their high school years at Kennedy. It is the student’s responsibility to take care of the Chromebook while it is in their possession. If you have technical issues, please see Mr. Long in the Middle IMC or call the District Technology Help Desk at 319-558-2900.
IF YOU SEE ANY WEBSITE WITH A SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST, THESE ARE NOT VALID.

Parent Involvement
There are many ways for parents to be involved at Kennedy. Each fine arts and sport team has a parents support group. Contact the director or coach for more information.
We are also looking for parents/guardians/grandparents to be involved in the general support by joining our Kennedy Parent Teacher Organization. This group may adopt projects such as campus beautification, graduation recognition, meals and gifts for staff, and senior prom. We are looking for more ideas and volunteers. Please come to the organizational meeting Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 5:30 in the upper IMC/library.
Student Activity Pass
Students may purchase a Student Activity Pass which will allow one free student admission to ALL Kennedy High School athletic events (including Kingston Stadium games) as well as select fine arts concerts and performances. The activity pass is not accepted at any postseason events.
The cost is $60. If a student qualifies for Free/Reduced lunch and completes the permission form on Infinite Campus, they may request a promo code for a $20 discounted price. Please contact the Kennedy Bookkeeper for more information.
Other season pass and discounted ticket options, along with single game online ticket options, are also available at this site.

Kennedy Athletic Registration
Before students can begin participating with a Kennedy High School athletic team, they must first obtain permission to practice. Permission to practice is approved once the following are completed:
*Student-athlete has a current physical on file. Completed within the last 12 calendar months. Physicals are valid for 12 months from the date of the last exam. There is a 30 day grace period to complete and submit the next physical.
*Student and parent/guardian read and sign off on the CRCSD Good Conduct and Eligibilty Policies.
*Student and parent/guardian sign off on the Heads Up: Concussion form required by the Iowa DOE, the IHSAA, and the IGHSAU.
Complete the permission to practice process by submitting an online activities registration annually for each of your Kennedy student-athletes.
It is recommended that you complete the process at least one week prior to the beginning of your first sport of the year. This will ensure your student is cleared before the start of practice.
The Kennedy Activities Online Registration Site will open mid July for the following school year.

School Driving Permit
Students who have completed Driver’s Education but do not yet have their Driver’s License, may apply for a School Driving Permit. This permit only allows the student to drive between home and school. There is a form that needs to be filled out, signed by the parent and signed by a school official. Officer Tran signs the form and goes through the regulations with the student. During the school year, students may stop by Officer Tran’s office to take care of this. During the summer there is an early June and early August date for those participating in school sanctioned summer and fall activities. For more information and the form needed, check out the page on our website.
