Find your passion and get involved.  There are many sports, activities, and clubs for students to join! 

If you have an idea for a club all you need to do is find a staff member to be a sponsor, determine what the club is about, decide on meeting times, and submit an application for the club.  The application form can be found in the Daily Announcements.

Here is a list of current Activities and Clubs for the 2022-2023 school year.  For more information and how to get involved, contact the Activity Sponsor:

Art After HoursMs. Budde Art Club meets monthly in an informal setting to discuss and work on art. Students may work on projects of their own interest or may use the time to work on class projects. Past projects have been showcased at area art shows. There is a one time fee of $10 to cover the cost of materials.Meets in room 301 from 3-4pm the third Thursday of the month.
Academic DecathlonMrs. Chihak Students are challenged with a different theme each year. They study the subject as it relates to the arts, sciences, language and literature and more. Students are provided study materials and then compete at a regional contest in January and a state contest in March.Mondays from 3-4pm in room 71
Best BuddiesMrs. GibneyThe Best Buddies Club is dedicated to making sure everyone has the opportunity to have a friend. Students with and without disabilities are paired and participate in activities to promote inclusion and develop friendships. The Best Buddies leadership group plans events each month to enhance these friendship opportunitiesMeets after school twice a month. Usually in the cafeteria. Bio ClubMr. Witmer Students interested in biology and biology fields are invited to join. There will be speakers and activities. In the past, the club has organized blood drives and visited a cadaver lab.Wednesday afterschool in room 205
Black Student UnionMs. Williams and Mrs. Williams RobinsonBlack Student Union (BSU) creates a safe place for Black students and allies to discuss relevant topics, raise awareness of systemic concerns, and educate students about Black culture and history.Fridays 1:30-2pm in room 126
Chess ClubMs. WoodhouseStudents who want to play chess or learn how to play the game are all welcome! Learn how to strategize while making friends. Be competitive, play for fun, or come watch others play. Tuesdays after school until 4pm in Room 128
Cougar BandanaMrs. MeloneCougar Bandana is a student led peer to peer mental health support and advocacy group. An application is required to join.Contact the sponsor for more information.
Cougar Electric CarMr. WilsonDesign, build, and compete with single passenger electric cars. Must be enrolled in the course to participate. Meets during class time.

Full House KollectiveMr. AndersonFull House Kollective is a space for content creation and collaboration for those interested in digital arts, making beats, or other forms of digital expression. Thursdays at 3pm in room 106
Garden ClubMrs. McAteeFor those interested in gardening. The food grown will go to the Kennedy Cougar Food Pantry and Feed Iowa First. Contact sponsor for more information
Gay Straight AllianceMs. WoodhouseGay Straight Alliance (GSA) meets to give people a safe space to learn and grow.Meets in room 128
Japanese ClubMr. CarolinExplore aspects of Japanese culture like music, fashion, pop culture, and food. Students are also exposed to traditional culture in arts and crafts, tea ceremonies, and holidays. You do not have to be in Japanese to participate. Key ClubMs. CrowellThis is a volunteer and community service club. The group raises money for charities such as UNICEF and the Children’s Hospital.Every other Wednesday at 7 am in room 262
Kinder KennedyMrs. LangtonKinder Kennedy is a group of students dedicated to living out and promoting the ideal that everyone at Kennedy deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. Math ClubMrs. Koch or Mr. EatonIf you are interested in building your problem solving skills with mathematics, join Math Club! The club will also help you prepare for various optional competitions and tests, including the AMC, ACT, and SAT.Wednesdays from 3:00-3:45 in room 229.

Robotics Team (Cougarbots)Mr. HemannWe design, code, and drive a robot to compete in FTC challenges. We work as a team and practice engineering skills to meet the demands of the game. We also participate in fundraising and community outreach.Tuesday and Thursday at 7am in room 64C

The Profile-yearbookMr. TollyThe Profile is Kennedy’s yearbook. The staff meets during the school day and outside of school to create a time-capsule that people look back to year after year. It is a student led organization. Learn to be a great photographer, interviewer, editor, digital designer, sales manager, or reporter. Prerequisites include Intro to Media or Intro to Photography.Meets during class time.
The Torch-newspaperMr. TollyThe Torch is Kennedy High School’s student produced newspaper. The newspaper is produced both in a hard copy as well as online.This is a class, but they also meet after school on select days
Trap ClubMrs. CoryTrap Club is a spring season sport that competes in State sanctioned events. Students learn gun safety and education, sportsmanship, and team building. Organization and fundraising begins in the fall and a safety class and test, held in February, is required. Fall meetings are once a month.
Practices are Tuesday and Thursday, March through June at the Otter Creek Sportsman Club
Young DemocratsMr. EvansAre you interested in politics or leadership around our city and state? We will be volunteering for the Iowa Democratic Party. No regular meetings-just opportunities to volunteer. Contact the sponsor for more information.
